Simple Past


What it means
Example
  • An action that started in the past and ended in the past
  • I cooked dinner last night.



Format
Example
  • When the word are regular add an ed

  • If the word ends with a y then you will need to remove the y and add ied.

  • There are irregular verbs in the past

  • Cook + ed = cooked
  • color + ed = colored
  • Cry = cry – y(ied)= cried
  • Try = try – y(ied) = tried

Present Continuous

  • An action that is happening at the moment



  • Near Future



  • Programmed Future
  • Question format: to be + subj. + verb(ing)


  • Negative format:
    subj.+ to be+ not+ verb(ing)
  • I am writing a book.
    Subj. + to be + verb(ing)


  • George is leaving tomorrow.



  • We are going to Los Angeles in December.


  • Is he coming tonight?



  • They are not leaving tomorrow.
